Haldimand & Norfolk Women’s Services (HNWS) is a gender-based violence agency committed to the safety and support of survivors and their children. Our services go beyond shelter — we offer support, advocacy, counselling, community education and violence prevention across 14 programs that meet survivors where they are at.
As the only shelter and dedicated sexual assault service in our community, the work we do is irreplaceable — and so are the volunteers who make it possible.

Help plan and run fundraising events, community awareness campaigns, and programs that directly support our mission.
Help maintain our shelter as a safe, comfortable space through light maintenance, cleaning, gardening, and general upkeep tasks.
Support our team with data entry, filing, reception, and other office tasks that keep the organization running smoothly.
Help residents transition into new homes by assisting with packing, moving, and setting up their new space — a fresh start made easier.
Support the emotional and physical wellbeing of residents and staff through wellness initiatives, activities, and compassionate presence.
Assist in meal preparation and kitchen operations, helping ensure that residents receive nourishing, home-cooked meals every day.
Provide supervised childcare and activities so parents can attend appointments, meetings, or simply get a moment of rest.
Provide safe transportation for residents to appointments, services, and community resources — a lifeline for those rebuilding independence.
Sort, organize, and distribute donated goods including clothing, household items, and essentials to residents who need them most.
Temporarily care for residents pets while they are in the shelter — because leaving a beloved animal behind should never be a barrier to safety.
