Youth Housing
All referrals for our Youth Housing program, come directly from the Children’s Aid Society of Haldimand and Norfolk (CASHN).
This program is aimed at providing service to youth aged 16-21 (older if attending school), who are in the care of CASHN and require assistance with developing skills to live independently. If you fall within this category and are interested in receiving service, please speak to your CASHN worker and request that a referral be completed. When the Youth Housing Advocate (YHA) receives a referral, she’ll reach out to CASHN staff to discuss your housing needs and will then proceed to contact you to discuss your interest in booking an intake. Your CAS worker will often attend the intake to provide additional information and support.
During the intake, the YHA will talk to you about your long term and short-term goals related to housing and skill development and may provide referral of additional community agencies as needed. Together with you and your CAS worker, the YHA, will produce a housing plan that meets your needs and fits within your budget. The YHA will research housing options that fall within the housing plan and send them to you via your agreed upon format (i.e. text, email, through your CAS worker etc).
The YHA can advocate to landlords on your behalf and support you during apartment viewings within Haldimand Norfolk or within a 100km radius of HN. The YHA can also assist with gathering household items needed to furnish your new place. Participation in the YH program is voluntary.
